The Word Is With Me

Living Each Day As It Is in Heaven

Welcome

Take a moment and settle in. Whatever your day has held so far, you don't have to leave it at the door. Bring it with you—and bring it to Jesus.

Maybe today has been peaceful. Maybe it has been busy, uncertain, or harder than you expected. Wherever you are right now, Jesus is already there with you.

That's the beautiful truth we're going to spend some time discovering together: Jesus came near, and He still comes near.

Before we begin, simply invite Him into this time with you.

“Jesus, help me become more aware of Your presence today. Open my heart to Your Word and show me what it means to walk through my everyday life with You.”

You don't have to have everything figured out. Just come as you are.

Jesus is here.

And that's where we begin.

Opening Prayer

Jesus, thank You for coming near and for being with me right here, right now. Quiet my heart and help me become more aware of Your presence. As I open Your Word, show me how knowing You are with me can change the way I live today. Help me hear what You want to teach me and carry it with me into the ordinary moments of my life. Amen.

Today's Scripture

John 1:1–14

Before we continue, let’s spend a few moments reading God’s Word together.

Let’s Walk Through It Together

Before Anything Else... Jesus Was There

John begins with four simple words: “In the beginning was the Word.”

Before your day began, Jesus was there.

Before the situation you're facing today, Jesus was there.

Before the questions you are carrying, the decisions you need to make, or the things you still don't understand, Jesus was there.

John tells us that the Word was with God and the Word was God. Then, a few verses later, he gives us the beautiful truth at the heart of this study: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.”

Jesus came near.

God didn't remain distant from the everyday lives of people. Jesus stepped right into their world. He walked dusty roads. He sat at tables. He talked with people who were hurting. He celebrated with people who were joyful. He noticed people others overlooked. He entered ordinary moments and made His presence known.

And that tells us something important about our lives today.

Jesus isn't only present in the moments we call “spiritual.” He is with us in the ordinary places too.

He is with you while you're making breakfast, driving to an appointment, answering a phone call, sitting quietly at home, spending time with someone you love, or trying to decide what to do next.

The Word who came near is still near.

Sometimes the first step in living differently isn't doing something more for Jesus.

It's simply noticing that He is already here.

Spend a Moment With Jesus

Think about the ordinary parts of your day—the places you go, the people you talk with, the things you do without giving them much thought.

Have you ever considered that Jesus is with you in those moments too?

Maybe there is one place in your life right now where you especially need to remember that He is near.

Spend a quiet moment with Jesus and simply tell Him about it.

Then carry this thought with you:

Jesus, help me notice You with me today.

Here's Something Beautiful... He Came Near

John 1:14 says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.”

Think about those words for a moment.

The Word became flesh.

Jesus didn't simply send us a message from heaven. He came Himself.

He stepped into our world and lived among ordinary people. He knew what it was like to be tired. He shared meals and conversations. He attended celebrations. He walked alongside people who were grieving. He noticed the lonely, welcomed the forgotten, and stopped for people others passed by.

Jesus came close enough to be known.

And He still wants that kind of relationship with us.

Sometimes we can begin thinking of Jesus as Someone we meet only during prayer, Bible study, or church. But His presence isn't limited to those moments.

Jesus wants to be part of the life you're already living.

He is with you in your home. He is with you in your relationships. He is with you when you're laughing and when you're hurting. He is with you when you're making decisions, waiting for answers, beginning something new, or simply going through an ordinary day.

You don't have to find a way to get Jesus to come closer.

He already has.

The Word became flesh.

Jesus came near.

And the Jesus who came then is with you today.

Spend a Moment With Jesus

Have you ever thought of Jesus being with you in the ordinary moments of your day—not just during the moments you set aside for Him?

Picture one ordinary part of your day. Maybe it's sitting at the breakfast table, driving somewhere familiar, working around the house, talking with someone you love, or simply resting at the end of the day.

Now picture that moment differently:

Jesus is there with you.

Spend a moment telling Him what it means to know that He came near—and that He is still near today.

You might simply say:

“Jesus, thank You for being here with me.”

Section 2

Don't Miss This... Heaven Can Touch the Ordinary

Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10

We often think of heaven as somewhere we will be one day. And it is. But Jesus also taught us to pray for the ways of heaven to become visible right here in the lives we're living now.

What does that look like?

It can look surprisingly ordinary.

Heaven touches earth when we choose kindness instead of impatience.

When we forgive instead of holding tightly to hurt.

When we bring peace into a difficult conversation.

When we notice someone who feels forgotten.

When we trust Jesus with something we cannot control.

When we love the person right in front of us.

These may seem like small moments, but Jesus often does beautiful things through small acts of love, grace, mercy, and obedience.

Living “as it is in heaven” doesn't mean creating a perfect life. It means allowing Jesus to shape the life we already have.

Because He is with us, we don't have to walk into our ordinary moments alone. We can pause and ask:

Jesus, how would You have me live in this moment?

And little by little, His love begins showing up in the places we live every day.

Spend a Moment With Jesus

Think about the day in front of you.

Is there a conversation, relationship, decision, responsibility, or ordinary moment where Jesus may be inviting you to bring a little more of His love, grace, or peace?

You don't have to do something big.

Maybe it's offering a kind word. Maybe it's choosing patience. Maybe it's forgiving. Maybe it's listening. Maybe it's trusting Jesus instead of carrying a worry by yourself.

Spend a moment with Him and ask:

“Jesus, how can I bring Your heart into this part of my day?”

Then watch for the small opportunity He places in front of you.

Section 3

One More Truth... The Word Is With Me

Jesus' final words in Matthew include a promise we can carry into every day of our lives:

“And, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” — Matthew 28:20

The One John called the Word didn't come near for only a little while and then leave us to figure life out on our own.

Jesus promised to be with us.

That means you can wake up tomorrow knowing He is there.

You can walk into an uncertain situation knowing He goes with you.

You can enjoy something beautiful and share that moment with Him.

You can whisper His name when you're worried.

You can ask for wisdom when you don't know what to do.

You can talk with Him while you're driving, cooking, working, resting, walking, or simply sitting quietly.

And when life doesn't look anything like heaven, you can still carry the presence of Jesus into it.

You won't always respond perfectly. You won't always remember that He is near. But His presence doesn't depend on how well you remember Him.

He is faithful.

The Word became flesh.

Jesus came near.

And now you can carry this truth into every ordinary day:

The Word is with me.

Spend a Moment With Jesus

Think about tomorrow.

Before the day begins filling with places to go, things to do, people to care for, and unexpected moments, remember this:

Jesus will already be there.

What might change if you walked into tomorrow more aware that He is with you?

Spend a quiet moment with Jesus now.

You might simply tell Him:

“Jesus, I want to walk through my days with You. Help me notice Your presence and live each ordinary moment with You.”

Then carry these words with you:

The Word is with me.

Walking Away Today

As you go through today, carry this thought with you:

Jesus is already there.

You don't have to wait for a quiet moment, a church service, or your next Bible study to be with Him. Jesus walks with you into the ordinary places of your life.

So when something beautiful happens, enjoy it with Him.

When something worries you, talk to Him about it.

When someone needs kindness, ask Him to help you give it.

When you don't know what to do, remember that you don't have to figure it out alone.

And when the day becomes so busy that you forget everything else you've read today, come back to these simple words:

The Word is with me.

Jesus came near.

Jesus is still near.

And wherever today takes you, He goes with you.

Talk With Jesus

Jesus, thank You for coming near. Thank You that Your presence isn't limited to church, Bible study, or quiet moments with You. You are with me in every part of my life.

Help me remember that as I go through my day. When I am busy, remind me You are near. When I am worried, help me talk with You. When I have a decision to make, help me listen for Your direction. When someone needs love, kindness, forgiveness, or encouragement, help me show them Your heart.

Teach me to recognize You in the ordinary moments and to live in a way that brings Your love, grace, and peace into the places I go.

Thank You that I never have to walk alone.

The Word became flesh. You came near. And You are with me still.

Amen.

Remember This

The Word is with me—Jesus is already present in every ordinary moment of my day.

Before you go, remember that your time with Jesus doesn't end when you close this study.

He goes with you from here.

Into the conversations you'll have, the decisions you'll make, the unexpected moments, the laughter, the worries, and all the ordinary things that make up your day.

You don't have to wait until the next time you open your Bible to talk with Him. You can notice Him, listen for Him, trust Him, and walk with Him right where you are.

The Word became flesh and came near.

And He is still near.

Go live your day knowing: The Word is with me.
